Oh I wish!

Our Indian film industry showed the kind of originality displayed in these ads. They are so simple... and yet so meaningful. They are not necessarily serious, yet fun to watch.

Oh well I guess movies that actually make sense don't really sell. Heard that Chak de India and Gandhi, My Father are not doing as well as expected because they are not the usual candy-floss piece of crap that generally mints money at the Box Office.

majority ppl want to see crap..they get crap! a handful appreciate good movies :(

Agreed its not "the usual candy floss crap", but Gandhi My Father is no great shakes either. Its just too disconnected and abrupt for my liking. Dont know about Chak De though, heard its good.

The problem with the Indian film industry is not that it serves up crap; it's the lack of diversity in crap that is served i.e. there aren't enough genres to cater to the large audience. With the emergence of the multiplex, it is changing now (of course, NRI's cannot attest to this since only a select few are screened; but there's also the small matter of downloading movies). So this whole concept of people who appreciate 'good' movies is a myth; the intelligentia who claim that Indian cinema is decaying because it can't make 'good' movies is mistaken. You like what you like. Before, people didn't have much choice in terms of genre. Now, people have a choice.

So-called 'crap' movies are a very important part of the movie watching experience. You appreciate a movie you like more after disliking all the 'crap' ones. They do serve a purpose!

I watched Gandhi My Father. Agreed the topic itself is quite interesting, but the movie is not so engaging. Chak De was awesome!

Btw, Chak De India is doing very well at the box office and Gandhi My Father pretty much flopped.
